On August 22, Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov held a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, he announced on his Telegram channel.
According to Saidov, the parties discussed strengthening the strategic partnership and allied relations between Uzbekistan and Russia, as well as the timely implementation of agreements reached at the highest level.
“We also reviewed upcoming bilateral events and joint efforts in international and regional arenas aimed at strengthening trust and cooperation in our region,” Saidov wrote.
For reference, Lavrov last visited Uzbekistan in April. On April 23, during a visit to Samarkand, he laid flowers at the Mourning Mother monument and expressed dissatisfaction over the absence of a Russian translation of the inscription. His remarks sparked discussion in Uzbekistan, with Alisher Kadyrov, deputy of the Legislative Chamber and leader of the National Revival Democratic Party, accusing Russian politicians of attempting to worsen attitudes toward Russian culture and language in the country. Another deputy, Odiljon Tojiyev, suggested that Lavrov’s proposal could be considered “if Uzbek were written on Red Square in Moscow.”
