The 2023 ranking of the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) has been announced and Uzbekistan ranks 70th in this index.  This was reported on the official website of the organization.

Afghanistan is listed as the worst country in terms of the terrorist situation.  In 2022, 633 victims of terrorist attacks were registered in the country.

The situation in Central Asian countries is much better.  Tajikistan took the 50th place in the rating, while Uzbekistan was considered worthy of the 70th place.

Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan shared the 93rd place, respectively.

In the other part of the world, except for Afghanistan, the number of victims of terrorism increased by 4%.  ISIS and its affiliates were the deadliest terrorist group in 2022, carrying out attacks in 21 countries for the eighth year in a row.

The Sahel is the region most affected by terrorism in the world, with a significant deterioration in 2022 despite improvements in Nigeria and Niger.  The number of victims of terrorism has also increased significantly in Burkina Faso and Mali.

Terrorism killed 6,701 people last year, down 38 percent from the peak in 2015.

Steve Killea, founder and executive chairman of the Institute for Economics and Peace, spoke about systemic approaches to combating terrorism and also touched upon the war in Ukraine.

"The conflict in Ukraine has attracted the attention of the whole world, and the global fight against terrorism remains relevant on the political agenda.  As its nature evolves, the response of the international community must continue to evolve.  This is no time for complacency, and a lack of focus will only increase the threat of terrorism in the future. "The fight against terrorism is one of the few sectors in which the powerful countries of the world have a common goal," he said.

For information, this index is calculated based on data on the number of terrorist attacks and casualties since 2007.
