Mongolia exported the majority of its meat and meat products to Uzbekistan, China, the UAE, Qatar, Kazakhstan, and Vietnam. This was reported by the country’s Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry.
According to the ministry, Mongolia exported 18,100 tons of meat and meat products in the first eight months of 2025, which is 10.9% less than in the same period last year.
It was noted that mutton and goat meat accounted for 63% of Mongolia’s total meat exports. During this period, most of the meat products were shipped to China, the UAE, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
For reference, livestock farming is one of the key sectors of Mongolia’s economy and serves as the main source of livelihood for the country’s nomadic population, which makes up about 40% of the total. However, harsh and prolonged winters often lead to significant livestock losses, negatively impacting the living conditions of nomadic herders.
According to the National Statistics Committee of Mongolia, the total livestock population reached 57.6 million by the end of 2024.
It is worth noting that on June 27, 2025, during a meeting between Mongolia’s Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry Enkhbayar Jadamba and Uzbekistan’s Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade Ilzat Kasimov, Uzbekistan agreed to purchase an initial batch of 2,000 tons of halal horse and lamb meat from Mongolia.
