4439Uzbekistan has ranked third globally in the number of citizens studying abroad, according to the Statistics Agency.
Based on data from the UNESCO Institute of Statistics, as of January 1, 2023, there were 6,859,400 students pursuing education overseas. This figure increased by 419,000 over the past year.
Here are the top 10 countries by the number of students studying abroad:
- China – 1,052,300 students
- India – 621,600 students
- Uzbekistan – 150,500 students
- Vietnam – 134,100 students
- Germany – 126,200 students
- United States – 115,000 students
- France – 113,500 students
- Syrian Arab Republic – 105,000 students
- Nepal – 95,100 students
- Pakistan – 90,600 students
Earlier reports indicated that from January to August 2024, 25,800 Uzbek citizens traveled abroad for education, an increase of 602 students, or 2.4%, compared to the same period last year. The data also highlighted the top destinations for Uzbek students, with Tajikistan, Russia, and the Kyrgyz Republic leading the list.
