Number of Kyrgyz citizens in Uzbekistan’s prisons disclosed

The number of Kyrgyz citizens held in prisons in Uzbekistan stands at 55. This was announced today, April 8, by Kyrgyz Prosecutor General Maksatbek Asanaliev during a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh.
According to the report, documents have been collected for the transfer of nine of these prisoners back to Kyrgyzstan and sent to Uzbekistan.
At present, the Prosecutor General’s Office is gathering the necessary documents across the republic, after which the cases will be reviewed through court procedures in Uzbekistan.
The Prosecutor General also noted that these processes are being delayed due to official procedures.
Earlier, it was reported that the Russian side was ready to return more than 3,000 Uzbek citizens serving sentences on its territory.
