Uzbeks have organized a flash mob on Instagram to demand the cancellation of the 200 kW electricity consumption limit. Participants are posting "Uzbekenergo, cancel the 200 kW limit" in their stories, with over 82,000 people joining the movement in just one day.

Discussions on social media platforms like Facebook and X (Twitter) have divided people into two camps. Some argue that the electricity consumption limits encourage savings, while others claim that 200 kW is insufficient and that demand will only grow during the autumn and winter seasons.

"Even if electricity prices stay the same, a higher limit should be set. In May, our household of five consumed 414,900 soums worth of electricity," commented a Facebook user.

Many people are calling for the limit to be raised to 500 kW. Alisher Qodirov, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and leader of the "Milliy Tiklanish" Democratic Party, proposed exempting citizens with incomes over 5 million soums from the 200 kW limit.

It is important to note that electricity prices have increased since May. For consumers in groups I, II, and IV, the rates remain unchanged at 900 soums and 1,000 soums per kW/h. For group III consumers, including those in apartment buildings and dormitories with centralized electric stoves, the rates are:

  • Up to 200 kWh per month: 225 soums
  • 201 to 1,000 kWh per month: 450 soums
  • 1,001 to 5,000 kWh per month: 675 soums
  • 5,001 to 10,000 kWh per month: 787.5 soums
  • Over 10,000 kWh per month: 900 soums

For other household consumers, the rates based on monthly consumption are:

  • Up to 200 kWh per month: 450 soums
  • 201 to 1,000 kWh per month: 900 soums
  • 1,001 to 5,000 kWh per month: 1,350 soums
  • 5,001 to 10,000 kWh per month: 1,575 soums
  • Over 10,000 kWh per month: 1,800 soums
