Employees from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan sent to Turkey have started rescue operations

Representatives of the Ministry of Emergencies of the Republic of Uzbekistan mobilized in order to eliminate the damage caused by the earthquake in Turkey, in accordance with the order of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, started search and rescue operations in the village of Ovakent of the Hatay region.  This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.

It is noted that more than 10,000 ethnic Uzbeks live in this area.

It was noted that the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Ankara and the Consulate General in Istanbul are implementing a number of measures aimed at relocating citizens of Uzbekistan from natural disaster areas to safe places and bringing them to Uzbekistan.

For example, the national team of Uzbekistan, which took part in the international freestyle wrestling competition among youth under 20 years old in Kahramanmarash from 3-6 February, was temporarily placed in the educational center in Ankara in cooperation with the Turkish side, and the issues of returning them to Uzbekistan are being developed.

It should be recalled that on 6 February this year, a strong earthquake of magnitude 7.9 (7.4 according to preliminary data) occurred in the southeastern regions of Turkey and several regions of Syria.  Later, another 7.7 magnitude earthquake occurred in Turkey.  In neighboring Syria, the number of dead was 1,444, and 3,530 were injured.
