Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced today, September 8, that he will visit several countries, including Uzbekistan, later this year. He made the statement during his address to the nation.

Tokayev also revealed plans to deliver a speech at the anniversary session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

“At the end of the year, I will visit Russia and Uzbekistan. We are preparing to host the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Turkmenistan in Astana, and meetings with the leaders of a number of Asian and European countries are also planned,” the Kazakh president said.

He emphasized the active development of Kazakhstan–US dialogue, as well as the country’s multifaceted relations with the European Union. Tokayev also highlighted the upcoming 80th anniversary of the United Nations, calling it the “main institutional expression” of the post-World War II order.

“The UN still has no equal and, in Kazakhstan’s view, should remain the main negotiating platform for the fair resolution of all pressing international problems,” he stated.

Tokayev stressed that reform of the UN’s main body, the Security Council, has “ripened.” He added that in his upcoming speech at the UN General Assembly, Kazakhstan will present its views on the international situation, including proposals for reforming the organization.

It is worth noting that earlier in his address, Tokayev also proposed parliamentary reform in Kazakhstan, suggesting a transition from a bicameral to a unicameral parliament.
