7728Today, on January 18, during a meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to discuss the objectives for export, investment, and local industry in 2024, the Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan, Ilhom Mahkamov, received a warning. The President's press secretary, Sherzod Asadov, reported this development.
Asadov mentioned that the meeting addressed issues awaiting resolution concerning the establishment of reliable logistics chains for delivering local products to foreign markets. Analysis revealed challenges such as additional fees for cargo transportation in certain countries, a complicated visa regime for drivers, incomplete coordination of weight requirements for motor vehicles, and a lack of terminals for storing and processing export goods in ports.
The Minister of Transport, Ilhom Mahkamov, was also cautioned for not effectively addressing these challenges.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Investment received several assignments to address logistics issues and expedite regional and major international projects. The meeting emphasized the need to activate efforts within the framework of establishing strategic railway corridors. Officials were instructed to take measures to simplify the visa regime for local carriers operating in foreign countries.
It's worth recalling that earlier in the meeting, the Minister of Justice, Akbar Tashkulov, was warned that failure to regulate the industry within two months could lead to his dismissal from the current position and appointment as the head of the Technical Regulation Agency.
