5291Donald Trump has officially assumed the presidency of the United States, marking the start of a new chapter not only for America but for the entire world. Taking the presidential oath on January 20, Trump inaugurated an era laden with significant expectations. His campaign promises, including plans to sign numerous executive orders swiftly after taking office, signal the beginning of a unique and consequential administration.
The inauguration of the New York businessman, whose rise to the presidency is regarded as one of the most remarkable political comebacks in recent history, drew intense global attention. A day earlier, Trump arrived in Washington, D.C., where he addressed supporters at the Capital One Arena. During this celebratory event, he expressed gratitude to his backers and outlined his vision for the nation's future.
On the morning of January 20, in keeping with tradition, Trump and his wife Melania attended a service at St. John’s Church, located opposite the White House. Vice President-elect James David Vance joined them for the occasion.
Following the service, the Trumps departed for their new home—the White House—where they were welcomed by outgoing President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. The two couples observed the custom of sharing tea in the White House before the formal proceedings.
As tradition dictates, Biden and Trump then traveled together in a limousine to the Capitol for the swearing-in ceremony. The outgoing president typically accompanies the president-elect to this event, a tradition upheld in 2017 when President Barack Obama accompanied Trump. However, Trump notably broke with this custom in 2021 by skipping Biden’s inauguration. Biden, in turn, confirmed to reporters that he had left a letter for Trump in the Oval Office, as Trump had done for Biden.
Upon arriving at the Capitol, Trump was greeted by a distinguished gathering that included former President Barack Obama, former First Lady Hillary Clinton, former President Bill Clinton, and prominent tech leaders such as Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. The ceremony marked the formal beginning of Trump’s tenure as the 45th president of the United States.
Vice President James David Vance was the first to take the oath of office, addressing the assembled crowd with the solemn pledge:
"I, James David Vance, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to it; that I freely assume this obligation without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will faithfully execute the duties of the office I am about to enter. So help me, God."
Following Vance, President Donald John Trump took his oath, declaring:
"I, Donald John Trump, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States and will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. So help me, God."
With these words, Donald Trump officially assumed the role of the 47th President of the United States, marking the beginning of his administration.
