Narcotics weighing 66 kilograms smuggled from Tajikistan into Fergana, Samarkand, Namangan, and Andijan regions have been intercepted, the State Security Service reported.
In particular, a Cobalt car driven by a 1992-born resident of the Beshariq district of Fergana region was stopped as it entered the ’’Rovot’’ border customs post from Tajikistan. Upon thorough inspection of the vehicle, narcotics hidden inside the gas cylinder of the luggage compartment were discovered. A total of 53 packages containing drugs were found. According to forensic examination, the packages contained 50 kilograms and 852 grams of opium, as well as 6 kilograms and 927 grams of hashish. During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the driver had transported the narcotics from Dushanbe.
Similarly, in the Samarkand region, a Gentra car driven by a 1992-born resident of the Urgut district was stopped in the Narpay district while traveling along the Samarkand–Navoi route. During inspection in the presence of witnesses, 981 grams of heroin smuggled from Tajikistan were found in the vehicle’s trunk.
In the Namangan region, during an operation on the Andijan–Namangan route, a VAZ-2106 was stopped and inspected in Norin district. Inside the vehicle, which was carrying two brothers born in 1979 and 1986 and residing in Andijan city, 1.833 kg of hashish was seized as material evidence. Continuing the operation, an additional 1.469 kg of hashish was discovered at the residence of one of the brothers. Preliminary investigation revealed that the narcotics had been smuggled from Tajikistan with the intent to sell for profit. According to the State Security Service, the elder brother had previously been convicted of drug trafficking.
In another case, a citizen of Kyrgyzstan born in 1985 and residing in Osh was arrested in Andijan while attempting to sell 3.949 kg of hashish to a buyer for 28 thousand dollars. Investigations revealed that he had obtained the narcotics from a hidden stash in the Ohangaron district of the Tashkent region, previously left there by Tajik drug couriers.
Currently, criminal proceedings have been initiated against all the detained individuals under Article 246 (smuggling) and Article 273 (illegal preparation, acquisition, possession, or transfer of narcotic drugs, their analogs, or psychotropic substances) of the Criminal Code. Detention has been applied as a preventive measure.
It is worth noting that earlier, nearly 50 kg of opium smuggled from Tajikistan had been seized.
