Permits are no longer required for cargo transportation between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan reported.

Since November 21, trucks can cross the borders of the two countries without obtaining a permit. The decision followed the ratification of a bilateral agreement by the lower house of the Tajik parliament. The Uzbek side was informed through Tajikistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs that all internal procedures for canceling permits had been completed.

The agreement to cancel permits was initiated after Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed the Tajik side to send the necessary notifications in September. Following the cancellation, drivers have reported free travel between the countries; however, a permit is still required for transit to other nations through Uzbekistan.

The Protocol on Amendments to the Intergovernmental Agreement "On International Road Traffic" dated March 9, 2018, was signed during President Mirziyoyev's state visit to Tajikistan on April 18-19 this year and ratified by the Tajik parliament in September.

Previously, Tajik Minister of Transport Azim Ibrahim stated that these amendments aim to simplify the transit of freight vehicles between the two countries, eliminating the need for permit forms.
