The Tashkent City customs department reported that a plan to illegally bring equipment worth 840 million soms into Tashkent was intercepted.

According to the report, the anti-smuggling department uncovered the situation at the "Arkbulok" customs post for foreign economic activity.  During a routine inspection, employees scrutinized fourteen units of "transformer parts" submitted under the name of a company based in the capital, for registration in the "free circulation" customs regime.

Upon closer investigation, it was discovered that the parts and labels of the transformers had already been in use since 2009 and were valued at 840 million soms.  The investigation is currently ongoing, and more information will be shared once it becomes available.

Starting 1st September 2019, the importation of previously used generator equipment, voltage-reducing transformers, electric motors and energy-consuming equipment of energy efficiency, class D into Uzbekistan is now prohibited, according to a decision made by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on 8th August 2019.  This measure aims to improve energy efficiency and promote the use of newer and more efficient technologies in the country.
