A baby was born aboard an Uzbekistan Airways flight traveling from Tashkent to New York, the airline’s press service has confirmed.

According to the report, a doctor-obstetrician and a surgeon, who were among the passengers, responded to the call for help. After a brief period, the passenger successfully gave birth to a baby boy.

As a result of the incident, the flight made an emergency landing in Iceland.

“The crew made the decision to land at the reserve airfield in Keflavik, Iceland,” the report states.

Once the plane landed safely, medical personnel boarded to provide the necessary assistance to the mother. Both the mother and the baby were then taken to a local clinic for further care.

Uzbekistan Airways congratulated the family on the arrival of their new baby, expressing gratitude for the professionalism and solidarity displayed by the crew and medical staff.

“Uzbekistan Airways congratulates the happy family on this wonderful event! We also extend our deep gratitude to the crew and medical staff for their professionalism and solidarity,” the report concluded.

In a related note, in April 2023, a Kyrgyz woman experienced a miscarriage on a Tashkent-Istanbul flight operated by Uzbekistan Airways. As the plane entered Turkish airspace, 27-year-old Kyrgyz citizen Sitora Abdumannopova began experiencing labor pains. The cabin crew and passengers assisted with the birth, and it was reported that the baby, born at 28 weeks, was a boy.
