6272A criminal group that set up a fake call center in the Mirzo Ulug‘bek district of Tashkent and collected personal data from over 15,000 individuals has been apprehended. This was reported by the Tashkent Main Department of Internal Affairs.
During a joint operation conducted by the Department for Combating Cybercrime and the State Security Service, it was discovered that the group had rented a house in the Mirzo Ulug‘bek district to establish the call center. Through fraudulent phone calls, they deceived citizens and embezzled their property.
The group consisted of two organizers and approximately 20 operators. During the operation, authorities seized over 15,000 subscriber numbers, personal data, narcotics, 35 communication devices, and more than 10 plastic cards as evidence.
A criminal case has been initiated under Article 278-4 (Modification of Computer Information) of the Criminal Code, and the suspects have been detained.
As a reminder, earlier this year, a criminal group operating in Tashkent and Fergana was arrested for defrauding Russian citizens of large sums of money from within Uzbekistan.
