Fraudsters caught selling fake gold bullion for \$70,000 in Tashkent

In Tashkent, two individuals were detained for selling counterfeit gold bullion for \$70,000, according to the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The incident was uncovered during an operation conducted jointly with the Yunusabad District Department and the State Security Service. Citizens X.U. and A.D., both previously convicted for fraud and other offenses, were found to have conspired to sell fake gold bars stamped with the "999.9" hallmark. The items, made of ordinary metal and weighing 2.06 kilograms, were passed off as genuine gold to citizens M.S. and R.L.

The suspects received \$35,000 as part of the \$70,000 deal before being apprehended.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 168 (Fraud) and Article 227 (Seizure, destruction, damage, or concealment of documents, stamps, seals, forms, or vehicle license plates) of the Criminal Code. Investigative actions are currently underway.
