Criminal group arrested in Tashkent for producing counterfeit money

A criminal group producing counterfeit money worth 28.3 million sums in 100,000-soum banknotes was apprehended in the Tashkent region, according to the regional Main Department of Internal Affairs.  

During an operation, authorities arrested a 1999-born resident of Chirchik, Tashkent region, while he was attempting to sell **6,644 counterfeit 20,000-sum banknotes totaling 132.88 million sums to a citizen for $3,000. Evidence seized included two aluminum cans, paper binders for wrapping counterfeit money, and glue bags.  

Further investigation revealed that the counterfeit notes had been obtained from another individual residing in the Ahangaran district. It was discovered that a 1997-born citizen, in collusion with a 1993-born accomplice, had rented an apartment in a residential building where they operated a counterfeit money production facility.  

Seized evidence from the apartment included:  
- A printing device.  
- Counterfeit notes worth 28.3 million sums.  
- Real 100,000-soum banknotes used for replicating notes worth 400,000 sums.  
- A machine for cutting banknotes.  
- Paper binders and glue bags for preparing counterfeit money.  

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 176 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan, which pertains to the production and distribution of counterfeit money, excise stamps, or securities. The investigation is ongoing.  

Earlier, authorities in Tashkent detained individuals for producing counterfeit banknotes worth 200,000 sums.
