A total of 1,309.76 hectares of land will be allocated for the construction of a new international airport in the Tashkent region, according to the regional Cadastre Department. The land will be taken from the Orta Chirchik and Kuyi Chirchik districts.
Of the total area, 1,075.45 hectares are irrigated land, 112.69 hectares are gardens, 0.65 hectares are pastures and hayfields, and 120.97 hectares are classified as other land.
Breakdown by district:
- Orta Chirchik district: 790.76 hectares, including 609.95 hectares of irrigated land, 112.63 hectares of gardens, 0.65 hectares of pastures and hayfields, and 67.53 hectares of other land.
- Kuyi Chirchik district: 519 hectares, including 465.5 hectares of irrigated land, 0.06 hectares of gardens, and 53.44 hectares of other land.
Plans for the new airport were first announced on August 1, when President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed major transport projects. Passenger traffic through Tashkent is expected to reach 15 million by 2030, but the current airport cannot be expanded due to its location within the city.
Transport Minister Ilhom Makhkamov said the new facility will be built 17 kilometers from the existing airport, near the Tashkent–Samarkand highway and a future toll road.
At the initial stage, the airport will handle up to 20 million passengers per year, accommodate 169 aircraft simultaneously, and manage over 40 take-offs and landings per hour.
