As classes in higher education institutions begin today, September 9, the DIA of Tashkent City has issued recommendations for students moving to the capital to avoid falling victim to rental scams.

The agency warns that fraudsters are advertising rental properties at low prices on social media platforms and various rental websites.

"Scammers often ask for advance payment to reserve a property, claiming there are many interested buyers. They may request that you transfer money using bank card numbers. This is a common trap — after you make the payment, you may never see the property owner or your money again," the IIBB information stated.

Students are advised to follow these recommendations to avoid falling prey to fraud:

  • Do not trust any advertisements you see on the Internet.
  • Do not make any payments before viewing the property in person and try to work with reliable professionals if possible.
  • Pay close attention to the details of the lease agreement.
