The British Boxing Federation has announced a boycott of the World Boxing Championship, which will be held in Tashkent in May this year.

The reason why Great Britain, like other countries that have announced a boycott of the competition, will not participate in the World Cup, is that the International Boxing Association (IBA) allowed Russian and Belarusian boxers to participate in the World Cup under their flags.

"This decision reflects ongoing concerns about the future of boxing in the Olympic program and the IBA's decision to allow boxers from Russia and Belarus to compete under their flags.  This decision is contrary to the position of the International Olympic Committee," the British Boxing Federation said in a statement.

It should be recalled that in February, several countries announced that they would not participate in the major tournament to be held in Uzbekistan.  They, like Great Britain, noted that International Boxing Association (IBA) President Umar Kremlev has a good relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin and that IBA's cooperation with Gazprom, as well as IBA Russia and Belarus, allowing boxers to compete under their flag in the tournament as a reason for non-participation.
