Mayor of Tashkent was appointed to a new position

Tashkent city mayor, Shavkat Umurzokov, has been appointed chairman of the Tashkent city branch of the Uzbekistan Chess Federation. The information service of the Tashkent city sports department reported this.

It was noted that on October 2, a meeting took place with the participation of officials from the Tashkent City Sports Department, heads of the capital’s sports schools, and chess coaches. The conference focused on establishing and developing chess schools in the city and increasing interest in chess among young people.

During the meeting, the organizational structure was addressed, and Shavkat Umurzokov, currently serving as Tashkent's mayor, was elected chairman of the Tashkent branch of the Chess Federation of Uzbekistan.

Additionally, vice-chairmen, an executive director, and a secretary for the Tashkent city branch of the Chess Federation of Uzbekistan were elected.

For context, Shavkat Umurzokov has been serving as the mayor of Tashkent since March 23, 2023.

It should be noted that in July of this year, Shavkat Boronovich Umurzokov, nominated by the Liberal-Democratic Party of Uzbekistan for the vacant deputy seat in the "Turkestan-53" constituency of Yunusabad district, was elected as a deputy by the Tashkent City Council of People's Deputies.
