Uzbekistan receives marble donation from Taliban for Samarkand project

12714The Taliban’s interim government in Afghanistan has donated 16 trucks of marble to Uzbekistan for use in the construction of the Imam Bukhari complex in the city of Samarkand. This was reported by the Surkhandarya regional administration.
According to the report, a meeting took place on May 13 at the Termez International Trade Center. The meeting was attended by delegations led by Ismatilla Ergashev, Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan; Ulugbek Qosimov, Governor of the Surkhandarya region; Mullo Abdul Vose, Head of the Secretariat of the Prime Minister of the Taliban’s interim government; and Muhammad Yusuf Wafo, Governor of the Balkh region.
During the talks, both sides discussed the development of multifaceted cooperation between the two countries. Topics included expanding trade, transport, humanitarian, and cultural ties.
At the end of the meeting, Uzbekistan accepted the 16 trucks of Herat white marble sent from Afghanistan for the construction of the Imam Bukhari complex in Samarkand.
“It is noteworthy that such practical cooperation will serve to further strengthen the historical closeness, mutual respect, and friendship between the two brotherly peoples,” the Surkhandarya regional administration said.
As a reminder, Uzbekistan has previously donated agricultural products to Afghanistan. This included 5 tons of high-quality, weather-resistant certified seeds (sufficient for 200 hectares of land), 20 tons of rice (for 100 hectares), 500 kilograms of mung beans (for 25 hectares), as well as 187 kilograms of vegetable seeds and 600 kilograms of melon seeds. These seeds were selected by the Seed Development Center under the Ministry of Agriculture.
