Uzbek MFA provides update on citizens injured in Phuket boat accident

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan has provided information regarding Uzbek citizens involved in a major maritime accident near Phuket, Thailand. On 11 January, the Korawich Marine 888 speedboat collided with a fishing trawler, sustaining serious damage, capsizing, and sinking.

According to MFA spokesperson Ahror Burkhanov, three Uzbek citizens were on board the vessel at the time of the accident. Two of them sustained minor injuries and were hospitalized locally. Both have fully recovered and were discharged in accordance with medical protocols.

All medical and other necessary expenses for the injured were fully covered by the insurance of the company owning the boat.

Uzbekistan’s Consulate General in Bangkok has been in continuous contact with local law enforcement and healthcare institutions regarding the incident.

The boat carried a total of 55 people, including 33 Russian citizens, as well as passengers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and several other countries. Among them, 23 Russians were hospitalized in Phuket for varying degrees of injuries, while 18-year-old Russian citizen Elizaveta Starikh died as a result of the accident. Authorities in Phuket and Krabi provinces are conducting an investigation into the incident.
