Termez appoints new governor following leadership change

Uktam Turaev, who had served as the governor of Termez since September 2022, has been dismissed from his post due to a transfer to another position. He has been replaced by Sharofiddin Lolaev, previously head of the Territorial Inspection for Construction and Housing and Communal Services in the Surkhandarya region. This change was announced by the regional government’s press service.

An extraordinary session of the Termez City Council of People's Deputies was held on May 23. The governor of Surkhandarya region, Ulugbek Kasimov, attended the session and spoke about the ongoing efforts for the city’s comprehensive development, highlighting current achievements and outlining future priorities.

During the session, organizational matters were addressed. Uktam Ismoilovich Turaev was officially dismissed due to his reassignment. The council approved the candidacy of Sharofiddin Usanovich Lolaev, nominated by the regional governor, as the new governor of Termez.

Sharofiddin Lolaev was born in 1987 in the Kumkurgan district. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Termez State University in 2015 and obtained a master’s degree in 2021. Throughout his career, he has held a number of responsible positions, including department head, chief inspector, and first deputy of the regional construction inspection. He has also served as deputy mayor of Denov district and of Termez city. Prior to his current appointment, he led the regional Territorial Inspection for Construction and Housing and Communal Services.

Uktam Turaev, the outgoing mayor, was born on October 25, 1979, in Muzrabot district, Surkhandarya region. He graduated from Termez State University in 2000, the Tashkent Automobile and Road Institute in 2002, and the Academy of Public Administration under the President of Uzbekistan in 2011. Before his tenure as mayor of Termez, he held several key positions, including first deputy mayor of Muzrabot, mayor of Boysun and Saryosiyo districts, and deputy minister of construction. His new position has not yet been announced.

In a related development, Alisher Kurbanov, who had been serving as the mayor of Muzrabot district since September of last year, was relieved of his duties on May 23. He has been succeeded by Abdulla Mamatkulov, former director of Surkhandarya Water Supply JSC.
