19424The Minister of Water Management of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Hamroyev, traveled to Afghanistan, according to a report by "Sputnik."
During his visit, Minister Hamroyev met with Ataullah Umari, the Acting Minister of Agriculture in the "Taliban'' interim government, in Hayraton. They discussed collaboration on fortifying the banks of the Amudarya River. The meeting underscored the need to address soil erosion, as floods have been destroying crops and coastal settlements.
Najibullah Sadid, a water resources expert, notes from objective sources that while Uzbekistan has effectively strengthened its coasts, the measures implemented by the "Taliban" leadership have been ineffective. Sadid reported that a protective dam in the Kamyob district of Juzjon province failed during the initial flood. Consequently, the floodwaters eroded the banks in Balkh province, resulting in the loss of 50 hectares of agricultural land.
The expert further indicated that the efforts by Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan to reinforce the northern coast, which were not coordinated with Kabul, have increased water pressure in southern Afghanistan.
It should be noted that earlier reports indicated that Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov had met with a "Taliban" delegation in Uzbekistan.
