4507The leakage of hydrogen sulfide from well No. 604 at the "25th Anniversary of Independence" mine in the Boysun district of Surkhandarya has been successfully contained. The Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) informed QALAMPIR.UZ about this development.
An additional block of hydrogen sulfide anti-leakage equipment was constructed and installed. The well was prepared, sealed, and subsequently extinguished.
On September 14, at approximately 13:05, a PVO (anti-leakage device) was installed on the pipe coming from the tower. The entire system was then tested on September 15. At 16:40 on the same day, a special solution called Barite was applied, and by 16:50, the gas flow from the tower and extraction equipment was halted.
"The planned elimination of the incident's consequences was carried out under the supervision of a specially organized headquarters," the report stated.
Experts from Russia and the USA were also consulted for a professional assessment of the situation.
"During the incident response, there was no danger to the population. The work was conducted with all necessary equipment, and all required measures were taken. Special posts for measuring and monitoring the air quality were established in surrounding areas. The analysis confirmed that there were no instances of harmful substance concentrations exceeding permissible limits. The working area of the drilling rig was cleaned and prepared for the full installation and use of special machinery and equipment," the MES reported.
The elimination process involved cooperation between Uzbekistan's military unit for the prevention and elimination of open oil and gas wells, the MES of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the state inspection "Sanoatkontekhnazorat."
We remind you that sulfur (hydrogen sulfide) gas was released during drilling operations at well No. 604, located in the "Kolkamish" neighborhood of Boysun district, due to a violation of the technological process. To ensure public safety, nearby residents were evacuated. Subsequently, the Deputy Prime Minister and several officials visited the mine.
