Court proceedings continue as usual.  Lawyers are not acting responsibly and standards are not being met.  A lack of motivation from investigators means cases are not developing.  These thoughts were expressed today, 14 November at a meeting held by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev regarding the discussion of priority tasks for ensuring justice.

At the meeting, the problems in the judicial and legal sphere were analyzed and proposals for the reform of the sphere were discussed.

It is noted that an average of 1,500,000 people apply to the courts every year.  There is a lot of confusion because the regional courts do not take enough responsibility for making fair decisions.  For example, since the beginning of the year, 18,000 citizens have come to the Supreme Court, dissatisfied with the decisions made by regional courts.

To prevent interference in the court, the term of office of judges was extended, and their salaries were sharply increased.  Their appointment was transferred to the Supreme Council of Judges. But there are still some gaps in this regard.

Therefore, the President gave instructions on creating an atmosphere of controversy in the courts and improving the work of law enforcement agencies.

The task was to develop draft laws to increase the responsibility of regional courts, to accept the criminal case together with the indictment and the opinion of the defense counsel.

The importance of radical reform of the Higher School of Judges, and training of judges specializing in property, family, tax, and labor relations for district and regional courts were emphasized.  The proposal to strengthen the powers of the community of judges and gradually increase the number of judges was approved.

The head of state has expanded digitization in the field, and has given instructions on harmonizing information systems and improving people's convenience through modern technologies.
