President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev is expected to visit Qatar tomorrow, July 14. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported this.
According to the ministry, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is expected to visit Doha in the near future to express condolences over the death of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, former Emir of the State of Qatar.
Earlier, it was reported that former Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who ruled Qatar for 18 years, died yesterday, July 12, at the age of 74.
On the same evening, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev sent a letter of condolence to the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, over the death of his father, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, former Emir of the State of Qatar.
“The bright memory and immortal name of His Highness Sheikh Hamad Al Thani, who made a worthy contribution to raising friendly relations and cooperation between Uzbekistan and Qatar to a new level, will remain forever in our hearts,” the letter said.
For reference, Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was born in 1952. He was the seventh Emir of Qatar and the third representative of the Al Thani dynasty. With the support of other members of the family, he assumed the post of head of state on June 27, 1995, while his father, Emir Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, was on an official trip to Switzerland. His father later lived in France and returned to his homeland only in 2004.
Emir Hamad’s rule was associated with reforms and modernization in Qatar. Qatar’s first permanent constitution was adopted on June 8, 2004, and entered into force on June 9, 2005. Al Thani ruled Qatar for 18 years and abdicated in 2013, handing power to his son, who continues to lead the country to this day.
