4 people are arrested in connection with the explosion in Sergeli

Four people were arrested after an explosion in a warehouse in Sergeli district of Tashkent city, as reported by the Government Commission.

It was reported that a total of 163 people was affected by the fire and explosion. Among them, 150 sustained minor injuries, while 13 were seriously injured. Unfortunately, one minor citizen lost their life due to severe injuries.

"Twenty-four of the injured were admitted to the hospital and provided with appropriate medical and psychological assistance. The remaining 138 were sent for outpatient treatment. Now all the injured citizens have recovered their health and have been allowed to go home," the report said.

It is said that food was delivered to 400 needy families, and 100 of their minor children received financial assistance.

"As a result of the emergency situation, 1,370 apartments in 39 multi-storey buildings and 246 local apartments were damaged in the facade, window frames, doors, and roofs, with a total amount of damage totaling 14.5 billion soums," the government commission said.

As a result of the emergency, window frames, doors, and facades of secondary school No. 305 (1250 seats) and kindergarten No. 600 (720 seats) were damaged.

According to information, the place where the fire started and the source of the explosion occurred in a warehouse made of metal and "sandwich" panels. As a result of the fire and explosion, the metal structures of the warehouse were deformed and collapsed.

"In the warehouse where the fire occurred, a large amount of chemicals, construction, and other products were stored in a mixed state without complying with the specified requirements," the report said.

Chemical research conducted based on samples taken from the scene of the incident showed the presence of chemicals such as polyesters, xylene, hydrocarbons, sodium hydroxide, hydrogen peroxide, ethylene glycol, and high molecular weight carbonic acid esters in the warehouse.

"These substances are components of hydrogen peroxide, alkyd resin, alkylbenzene sulfonic acid, latex, polyester resin, caustic soda substances, and lacquer products stored in the warehouse, and are considered to have a high risk of fire and explosion," the information says.

The explosion was caused by the interaction of chemical substances and materials stored in the warehouse and the occurrence of chemical spontaneous combustion.

The investigation department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has opened a criminal case under Article 259, Part 2, Paragraphs "a" and "b" of the Criminal Code. In the criminal case, "arrest" was applied to four persons, and "bail" was applied to one person.

For information, on the night of September 28 of this year, a strong explosion occurred in the warehouse belonging to "Inter Logistics" LLC in the "Quruvchilar" district of the Sergeli district of Tashkent city.
