About 50 percent of the murders committed between January and June of the current year, were as a result of family conflicts.  Chairman of the Defense and Security committee of the Senate Kutbiddin Burkhanov stated this in his speech at the 29th plenary session of the Upper Chamber.

Regarding crimes caused by family disputes, Burkhanov said that 80 out of 183 murders in 6 months, or 44 percent, were committed following family disputes.  77 of these crimes, or 96 percent, occurred between husband and wife, brothers, father and sons, in other words, close relatives.

"In the analysis of crimes committed in a family, by individuals, the husband committed 359 crimes against the wife, 32 crimes against the husband by the wife, 55 crimes against a neighbor, 80 crimes against a brother or sister, and 241 crimes against a relative», - Burkhonov says.

The senator also stressed that 9,418 of the total number of crimes recorded in the last 6 months were committed by the youth due to insufficient attention to solving their problems.

Of this, 12,940 young men committed crimes, 1,278 were women, 504 were university students and 2,290 were young people without employment or education.

It should be recalled that the capital Tashkent remains the region with the highest crime rate in the country.  The crimes committed in the last six months amount to 363 per 100,000 population.
