29 people were convicted over Sardoba disaster 

On 12 September this year, the closed criminal trial of 29 people who were linked to the Sardoba flood case was concluded and a verdict was delivered.  This was reported by a press secretary of the Supreme Court.

The defendants were found guilty of offences under articles 167, 28, 167, 209, 28, 209, 243 and 258 of the Criminal Code.

According to the verdict delivered, the defendants were sentenced

•    1 person was sentenced to imprisonment for 10 years' 3 months with deprivation of the right to work in positions of official and material responsibility for 3 years

•    1 person is deprived of the right to work in positions of professional and material responsibility for 3 years, with imprisonment for 5 years and a fine of 550 times the basic amount of calculation,

•    1 person shall be deprived of the right to work in positions of official and material responsibility for 3 years, with imprisonment for 5 years and a fine of 600 times the basic calculation,

•    Fines in the amount of 600 times the basic rate per 1 person, with deprivation of business for 3 years

•    2 persons are sentenced to 4 years' deprivation of the right to work in positions related to official and material responsibility, as well as to fines of 550 times the basic calculation,

•    Twenty-three persons were sentenced to between 400 and 550 basic calculation values, with disqualification from work in positions of professional and material responsibility for up to three years.

Appeals against the present sentence can be lodged to the Supreme Court through the Tashkent City Court within twenty days from the date of the announcement of the sentence, and by convicted and civil plaintiffs within that period from the date of serving the copy of the sentence. 

Sardoba flood 

On 1 May 2020, the dam of the reservoir «Sardoba» on Syrdarya was collapsed, as a result of which 10 thousand people were affected.  About 5,000 houses were destroyed.  Agricultural fields were damaged and hundreds of cattle were killed.  Floods in the morning prematurely killed 6 people.

Criminal proceedings were instituted in connection with this case under articles 207 and 258 of the Criminal Code, paragraphs «a» and «b».  In this criminal case, 17 people were prosecuted as suspects and criminal proceedings were subsequently instituted under various articles of the Criminal Code.

The investigation of the «Sardoba matter» was conducted by the Investigation Department State Security Service, and the investigation lasted 7 months.  Prior to the verdict of the court, the responsible investigative organ did not provide information on the status of the investigation and the persons involved. «The secrets» continued in court, and the trial was held behind closed doors.

14 defendants were convicted by the Supreme Court's Criminal Trial Panel in the "Sardoba case" under Article 167 of the Criminal Code (embezzlement or embezzlement), part 3 "a", " Clauses v", Article 209 (job fraud), Clauses 2, "a", "b" and Article 258 (violation of safety rules of mining, construction or blasting) part 2, "a", "b" and 3 defendants were found guilty of committing the crimes referred to in Article 203 and Article 207 (treatment in cold blood), Part 3, Clause "a" of the Criminal Code, and 6 of them were sentenced to imprisonment from 4 to 10 years, the rest Fines were imposed on 11 persons.
