Water washes away dam carrying railway line in Samarkand

Today, July 3, water washed away a dam carrying the Samarkand-Urgut railway line in Toyloq district of Samarkand region. A QALAMPIR.UZ source reported this.

According to the information, the incident occurred in the Dostlik mahalla citizens’ assembly area of Toyloq district. Uzbekistan Railways has not yet commented on the situation.

It is worth noting that this railway line was commissioned at the end of 2025. The total length of the line is 55 kilometers. As part of the project, two railway stations, two freight stations in the Urgut economic zone, and a number of bridges were built.

It had been stated that the launch of train services would make it possible to transport 359,000 passengers and 8.2 million tons of cargo annually. Uzbekistan Railways also said during the project presentation that a dam had been built to protect the railway tracks running along the bank of the Zarafshan River from water flow.
