Following high-level negotiations between Uzbekistan and Italy, a ceremonial event was held at the International Congress Center in Samarkand to name one of the city’s streets after Rome. The President's press service reported the news.

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that the decision reflects the deep historical and cultural ties between the two nations, the current high level of strategic partnership, and the spirit of friendship and mutual respect shared by the peoples of Uzbekistan and Italy.

At the conclusion of the talks, President Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of the Republic of Italy Giorgia Meloni adopted a joint declaration on strengthening strategic partnership relations.

As a symbolic gift, President Mirziyoyev presented Prime Minister Meloni with a copy of "The Prince" by renowned Italian thinker Niccolò Machiavelli, translated and published in the Uzbek language.

It is worth recalling that in March of this year, during President Mirziyoyev’s state visit to France, a street in Paris was named after the city of Samarkand.
