There have been reports circulating on social media suggesting that the Governor of Samarkand, Erkinjon Turdimov, plans to resign due to health issues. To clarify, QALAMPIR.UZ contacted Manuchehr Mirzayev, the press secretary of the Samarkand region’s governor.

Mirzayev stated that Turdimov is currently holding a meeting in his office and expressed surprise at the reports.

“To be honest, I am surprised to read these reports myself. We have not heard anything like that yet. Turdimov is scheduled to hold a session meeting today as planned, which was set a week ago. However, the issue of his resignation is not on the agenda for today’s session,” he said.

Erkinjon Turdimov was re-confirmed as the governor of Samarkand on November 5, following the parliamentary elections.

Mirzayev also addressed the health issues that have been cited as the cause of the resignation rumors.

“Yes, everyone knows that he has health problems. He undergoes treatment for 1-1.5 months every year, but this has not interfered with his duties,” he clarified.

Turdimov’s illness, related to high blood pressure, has been documented in the past. He took a short-term medical leave in early 2021 due to high blood pressure and a microstroke. In 2022, he also returned from treatment in Germany following a stroke. In 2024, he was delayed in returning to work because of the same health issue, during which time he was undergoing treatment abroad.
