An Uzbek national in Russia was conscripted for military service.  This was reported in the project “Astra” of the independent Russian journalists who were censored or persecuted in Russia.

Siroj Nabiyev, who has received a conscription letter for military service, does not have Russian citizenship and residence permit.

“I live in Moscow, but I have never been a citizen of the Russian Federation. Accordingly, I cannot be on any military list.  I appealed to the Embassy of Uzbekistan, I was told to go the relevant agency and write an application, and they also warned me not to go anywhere for military service”, - Siroj Nabiyev reported to the project “Astra”.

It should be noted that the Embassy of Uzbekistan warned Uzbek citizens in Russia not to participate in any military actions and activities that encourage them.  In addition, Uzbeks living abroad are reminded that under article 154 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Recruitment”:, unlawful participation in armed conflicts or hostilities in the territory of a foreign state is considered a crime. The penalty for such acts may be up to 10 years imprisonment.

The General Prosecutor’s Office of Uzbekistan issued the same warning.

At the same time, the embassies of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan also warned their citizens of criminal responsibility in case of their participation in the war against Ukraine as part of the Russian Armed Forces.
