Russia sees great prospects in increasing gas supplies to Uzbekistan, including liquefied natural gas (LNG). This was reported by the Russian government’s press service on October 16 following a meeting between Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak and Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamahmudov, held as part of Russian Energy Week.

’’Gazprom continues to implement the contract for the annual supply of 7.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Uzbekistan. At the same time, there are great opportunities to increase gas supplies, including through liquefied natural gas,’’ the report said.

Earlier, Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller reported that between January and August 2025, Russia’s gas exports to Central Asia (Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan) increased by 15 percent. By the end of 2024, Gazprom had increased its gas exports to Uzbekistan 4.4 times, reaching 5.64 billion cubic meters.
In June 2023, Uzbekistan signed a two-year gas purchase agreement with Gazprom, under which the daily supply volume amounts to 9 million cubic meters, or nearly 2.8 billion cubic meters annually. Deliveries under this contract began on October 7, 2023. In addition, Gazprom had planned to deliver significantly larger volumes of gas to Central Asian countries through the ’’Central Asia–Center’’ pipeline until November 1, 2025.
In June 2024, Gazprom signed gas supply contracts with Kyrgyzstan, as well as agreements with Kazakhstan to ensure the transit of Russian gas to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan for the period 2025–2040. In February 2024, the Uzbek government announced its intention to increase gas import volumes from Russia by 3.5 times, from 9 million to 32 million cubic meters per day, by modernizing the country’s main gas pipeline system.
It is worth noting that in April this year, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated at a press conference following his visit to Uzbekistan that several new infrastructure projects are expected to double gas supplies from Russia to Uzbekistan.
