The governor of Norin district in Namangan region, Jurabek Nurmatov, moved into a container house installed in the Shurariq (New Namangan) neighborhood after President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s criticism directed at officials during his visit to the area. This was reported by the press service of the Namangan regional administration.
According to the regional administration, the President’s visit to the region on September 16–17 marked the beginning of what they describe as a ’’second renaissance’’ in Namangan.
Under the leadership of regional governor Shavkatjon Abdurazzoqov, along with relevant deputies and officials, active work has begun to transform the Shurariq neighborhood of Norin district into the New Namangan neighborhood, in line with the tasks set by the President.
At the initial meeting with residents and community elders, information was provided about the planned measures initiated by the President to radically transform the appearance of the neighborhood, establish an industrial zone on the site of unused, old buildings, and develop the necessary infrastructure.
Additionally, specialists and community representatives presented their proposals for developing a master plan to accelerate the growth of New Namangan and its six surrounding neighborhoods. At the same site, a regional headquarters was established to coordinate all activities, and its work has been set on track.
To accelerate reforms, resolve existing problems on the ground, and turn the neighborhood into a well-developed area, the governor of Norin district moved into a container house installed within the neighborhood.
The President's unexpected visit
On September 16, during his visit to the Namangan region, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev made an unscheduled stop in the Shurariq neighborhood of Norin district. The unplanned visit clearly revealed the difficult conditions in the area. More than 5,000 residents live in the neighborhood, including 62 low-income families, 118 unemployed individuals, and 157 citizens working abroad as labor migrants. While inspecting the dusty streets and abandoned buildings, the President also listened to residents’ views on the problems they face. At the same time, he instructed officials to turn the neighborhood into a model example. During his conversation with the residents, the Head of State stated that both the name and appearance of the neighborhood would change. While giving instructions, Mirziyoyev emphasized that ’’if necessary, the district governor should stay here overnight.’’
