6986Today, on August 31, a commemoration ceremony for the victims of repression was held in Tashkent’s Martyrs’ Memorial Avenue. President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev also participated in the ceremony. This was reported by the President’s press servialle.
At the event, the Quran was recited and prayers were prayed for those who passed away. The Qur’an was also recited near the symbolic grave in the alley.
“Every time we come here and remember our brave grandfathers who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our people, we feel comforted. Remembering them and continuing their good work is both a debt and a duty for us. The fate of our oppressed leaders motivates all of us to value our independence and preserve it. Living in such independence and peace is a great blessing and blessing of God. For this, it is necessary to appreciate it with gratitude,” said the President. It is known that thousands of Uzbeks were repressed during the Soviet regime. Their families were destroyed and their children were orphaned. During the great massacre of 1937-38 alone, about 7 thousand intellectuals were shot.
The current alley was a terrible place where such executions were carried out. Now it has been turned into a prosperous place. The museum “Commemoration of Victims of Repression” and its branches in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and regions were established here. At the same time, an exhibition dedicated to the enlighteners of Turkestan was opened in the museum.
In the ceremony, it was remembered once again that 100 thousand people were persecuted in Uzbekistan in 1937-53, 13 thousand of them were shot. Unfortunately, the pressures did not stop there. Even in the 80s of the last century, thousands of Uzbeks were victims of injustice. 40,000 people were investigated and 5,000 people were brought to criminal responsibility across the country under false accusations of “cotton case” and “Uzbek case”.
The head of state, Sharof Rashidov, who led Uzbekistan for twenty-five years, also said that it was painful that he was subjected to political repression after his death. It was noted that good things are being done to study the life of the ancestors and perpetuate the memory of unjustly persecuted people.
“We are doing a lot of work to restore justice in this regard. Commissions were formed with the participation of historians, archival documents are being studied. In the last two years, the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan acquitted more than 850 such victims, and this year 240. We must never stop such research. “Our people should know the truth,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
It is said that the history of this period is getting richer with newly found documents and objects. “Memory” books have been prepared for the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions and the city of Tashkent. They include information about about 40,000 Uzbeks. These collections will be published soon.
At the same time, President Mirziyoyev emphasized the need to seal the names and activities of the victims of repression in the neighborhoods where they lived.
“We built museums, books are published, most of them are published. But it should not be forgotten. In my opinion, it would be a meritorious and instructive thing to write down the names of the victims of repression in the neighborhood where they were born or where their descendants live today, in the school there. In addition, it is necessary to visit their homes on such holidays and memorial days. Why do we go home to war participants and not remember the victims of repression?! The life of each of them is heroic. We need to study it, campaign and convey it to our youth,” said the head of state.
