The President disclosures the number of children given to families from the orphanages

At the same time, on the eve of the great holiday– Ramadan Khayit (Eid al-Fitr), a meeting chaired by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the measures of the strengthening of social protection of the needy population has been launched.

“In the New Development Strategy of Uzbekistan, we have identified support for vulnerable layers of the population based on the principles of social justice and poverty eradication as a priority of State policy.

This policy is becoming a key feature of the democratic and fair state that we are building today.

In these blessed days, as a symbol of the magnanimity and kindness of our people, I think it will be welcomed by our people and even by our creator to pay attention to the elderly, lonely and needy sisters, brothers and children, and to take care of them-”, –President Mirziyoyev said at the beginning of the meeting.

The meeting noted the creation of a new system of care for children who have been left without parental care, women who have lost the household breadwinner, disabled persons, and those seriously ill in recent years.

Under this system, in particular:

• about 1,500 boys and girls have been given to the kind families from the orphanages, 116 family homes have been created, and conditions have been created for about 700 children to grow up in the care of parents.

• 10 Orphanages, 4 «Children’s Town» and 2 «Children’s Homes» closed;

• 757 children were provided with housing last year, an additional 350 will be provided by the end of 2022;

• more than 4,000 children have undergone complex surgery at the expense of the state;

• last year, 555 hearing impaired children received cochlear implants, and 250 more children will receive such assistance in the current year;

• The braille alphabet was distributed to 4,000 children with impaired eyesight.
