Paris-2024: The Uzbek athlete will fight for the bronze medal

Today, on August 9, Javrail Shapiev from Uzbekistan, who missed his chance in the quarter-finals of the freestyle wrestling competition, secured a spot in the bronze medal play-off.

Competing in the -86 kg category, Shapiev defeated Canadian Alex Moore in the repechage round. Shapiev will now face American Aaron Markel in the match for 3rd place. Athletes from Bulgaria and Iran will compete in the final for this weight category.

Additionally, another Uzbek freestyle wrestler, Gulomjon Abdullaev, will also fight for a bronze medal in today’s program. Abdullaev will compete against Bekzat Almaz Uulu in the -57 kg weight category.
