The 44th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) was held in New Delhi, the capital of India. Otabek Umarov, the youngest son-in-law of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, represented Uzbekistan and was elected Vice President for the Central Asian region, which includes Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Afghanistan. This was reported by the National Olympic Committee.

As part of the assembly's agenda, elections were also held for other leadership positions within the organization. Raja Randhir Singh, who had been serving as the interim head of the organization, was elected President.

During the event, Otabek Umarov remarked on the growing global recognition of continental sports, citing that four Asian countries ranked among the top 15 at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. He also highlighted President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's support for sports, which has led Uzbekistan to achieve the best results in its history. Umarov pledged to uphold the trust placed in him and to further promote the pure and noble ideals of Olympism in the region.

For context, Otabek Umarov was previously the Vice President responsible for organizing the Asian Youth Games "Tashkent-2025." While this position is temporary until the conclusion of the games, his role as Vice President for the Central Asian region is a permanent position. Umarov is now responsible for the development of Olympic sports across one of the five regions of the continent.
