Head of the presidential administration of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov introduced the new chairman of the Supreme Court Bakhtiyor Islamov to the staff on 11 August.  This was announced on his Twitter page by Deputy Head of the presidential administration Komil Allamjonov.

According to him, the judicial system in Uzbekistan needs serious reforms.

“Without a fair judicial system, there will be no development.  In addition, today’s judicial system needs serious reforms.  Currently, Sardor Umurzakov is introducing the new chairman of the Supreme Court Bakhtiyor Islamov, who was approved by the Senate just recently”, - Allamjonov says.

It is noted that the meeting with Sardor Umurzakov in the Supreme Court building was very tense and critical.  Allamjonov explains this as follows:

“The majority of the population today is completely dissatisfied with the judicial system”.

It should be recalled that on 10 August, the 30th plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) was held.  The chairman of Supreme Court Kozim Kamilov requested to be discharged from his post because of his health issues.  As a result of the discussion of the plenary session held by videoconference, a decision was taken to dismiss him from his post as chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

At the meeting, the candidacy for the post of chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan submitted by the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan was also discussed. Following the discussion, Bakhtiyor Jakhongirovich Islamov was elected chairman of the Supreme Court.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed Kozimjon Fozilovich Komilov, who held the position of chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan, for the vacant post of Constitutional Court judge.

For reference, Bakhtiyr Islamov previously worked as an adviser to the president of Uzbekistan on the coordination of the activities of law enforcement and state control bodies.
