The head of the Torakorgan district cadastral department in Namangan has been arrested after demanding a bribe from a citizen to avoid a fine for illegally occupying land, according to a court verdict reviewed by QALAMPIR.UZ.

The incident occurred when the district's cadastral office fined a citizen 51 million soums for unauthorized land use. The citizen, claiming financial hardship, appealed to the head of the department, explaining his inability to pay the fine. In response, the official demanded $300 as a dowry for his employee's wedding in exchange for waiving the fine.

The head of the department was caught in a sting operation on August 22, 2024, while accepting the bribe in his Lacetti car in the Aktash neighborhood of Torakorgan. When police officers attempted to stop him, he threw the $300 out of the window and fled the scene. However, evidence confirming the bribe was collected by the DIA of Namangan.

The official partially confessed to his actions during the court proceedings. He was found guilty of accepting a bribe and sentenced to five years in prison. Additionally, he was banned from holding any public office in organizations with state participation, including the Cadastre Agency, for two years.

Earlier, a similar case occurred in Chirchik City, where the deputy mayor was arrested for accepting a bribe of 1 million US dollars.
