Citizen was detained in Namangan for storing “marijuana” in a field

A 35-year-old resident of the Namangan region has been detained for storing 3 kilograms of marijuana in a field. This was reported by the regional Department of Internal Affairs.  

During an operation conducted on November 5 by officers of the Chust district Criminal Investigation Department, it was discovered that a resident, born in 1989, had hidden cannabis-like plants in a farm built on a field plot. Authorities seized three synthetic bags, five small glue packets, and three matchboxes containing substances with a pungent odor.  

A chemical examination confirmed that the seized plants were marijuana, with a net weight of 3 kilograms.  

A criminal case has been initiated under Part 5 of Article 273 of the Criminal Code, which addresses the illegal preparation, acquisition, storage, and trafficking of narcotic drugs, their analogs, or psychotropic substances. A preliminary investigation is underway.  

It is worth recalling that earlier in the Surkhandarya region, a 48-year-old man from the Nurafshon neighborhood of Termez district was detained for growing marijuana on the roof of his barn. The dried substances were stored in a plastic bag, and he was caught selling approximately 23 grams of marijuana. The man was convicted under Article 270, Part 1, and Article 273, Part 5 of the Criminal Code and sentenced to six years in prison.
