The head of the Emergency Situations Department in Pop District, Namangan Region, has been detained for accepting a bribe of $160,000, UzA reported.

The officer was apprehended by law enforcement authorities with material evidence after receiving the bribe in exchange for registering two hectares of land. The land had been allocated to five of his family members by the Pop district governor's decision in February 2021. Through his official connections, the officer facilitated the registration of the land in the name of a buyer and secured permission for the construction of cottage-style homes on the property.

A criminal case has been filed against the officer under Article 25,168 (Fraud), Part 4, Clause "a" and Article 28,211 (Bribery), Part 2, Clause "b" of the Criminal Code. Investigations are ongoing.

This incident follows a similar case in Syrdarya Region, where the head of the operational unit of the Emergency Situations Department in Saykhunabad District was detained for accepting a bribe of $7,000.
