Uzbek teahouse: What is the New York Mayor accused of?

The U.S. Department of Justice has ordered the closure of the corruption investigation against New York Mayor Eric Adams. Deputy Attorney General Emile Bove sent a memo to prosecutors in the Southern District of New York, telling them to drop the charges against the mayor. According to him, the Justice Department does not question the integrity and efforts of the prosecutors who conducted the investigation, nor does it deny the evidence they presented. However, the investigation was deemed necessary because it hindered the New York Mayor's efforts to combat illegal immigration and violent crimes in the city.

Emile Bove also said the charges against Eric Adams could be reviewed after the New York mayoral election. These elections will be held in November of this year.

The decision to drop the charges has yet to be officially submitted by prosecutors and approved by the judge overseeing the case.

What Exactly is the Mayor Being Accused Of?

Why are we talking about the mayor of a city in the middle of the world, while we are still mayors? Five separate criminal cases were filed against Adams in late September of last year. QALAMPIR.UZ got acquainted with the 57-page indictment drawn up in his criminal case. It includes charges such as bribery, illegal solicitation of donations from abroad, fraud, luxury trips, and receiving lavish gifts from wealthy foreign businessmen and Turkish government officials. The indictment also mentions Adams' nearly ten-year corrupt rule, from his time as head of the Brooklyn borough to his time as mayor. Most interestingly, the indictment also mentions the names of some Uzbeks.
