The young man who posted a comment online, insulting President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has been arrested

A 28-year-old individual who insulted the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and made disparaging remarks on the internet has been given a 5-year prison sentence. Aziz Obidov, the press secretary of the Supreme Court, provided this information to QALAMPIR.UZ.

The Namangan City Court, in its ruling on March 28, 2024, found D.T., born in 1996 in the Namangan region, guilty of offenses outlined in Article 158 (insulting the President of Uzbekistan) Part 3, and Article 223 (illegally leaving or entering Uzbekistan) Part 1 of the Criminal Code.

Reportedly, D.T. traveled from Uzbekistan to Azerbaijan in 2016, then illegally entered Iran and other countries without the necessary travel permissions. Additionally, he posted insulting comments about the President online.

D.T., who has a secondary education, is unmarried, has no prior criminal record, and works seasonally, has been sentenced to 5 years in prison. The sentence is to be served in correctional facilities.
