President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree titled “On Pardoning a Group of Persons Serving Their Sentences, Sincerely Repenting of Their Actions, and Resolutely Pursuing the Path of Correction.” This was reported by the presidential press service.

The decree was issued to commemorate the 32nd anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, aligning with paragraph 23 of Article 109 of the Constitution. A total of 483 individuals, who either knowingly or unknowingly committed crimes and are currently serving their sentences, were pardoned after demonstrating genuine repentance and a commitment to rehabilitation.

Among the pardoned, 107 individuals will be fully released from their sentences, 275 will be granted parole, and 7 will have their sentences commuted to lighter penalties. Additionally, the terms of imprisonment for 94 individuals will be reduced.

The pardoned group includes 25 foreign citizens, 32 women, 5 men over the age of 60, 274 young individuals (including 104 minors), and 6 people previously associated with banned organizations.

“This act reflects the humanitarian policies of our country and embodies the noble qualities of tolerance, forgiveness, generosity, and kindness inherent in our people,” the presidential statement emphasized.

The decree also mandates relevant ministries and departments to facilitate the reintegration of pardoned individuals. These measures include reuniting them with their families, supporting their social adaptation, encouraging productive work, promoting healthy lifestyles, and helping them find a meaningful place in society.

It is worth noting that a similar decree was issued on the eve of Independence Day earlier this year, leading to the pardon of 522 individuals who had shown sincere repentance and a desire for self-improvement.
