Mirziyoyev departs for Russia to attend BRICS summit

Today, October 23, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan embarked on a business visit to Kazan, Russia. The President's press service reported that he will participate in the BRICS summit and engage in several bilateral meetings.

President Mirziyoyev is scheduled to deliver a speech at the plenary session in the BRICS Plus format, chaired by the Russian side. The meeting's agenda includes discussions on expanding international cooperation to promote inclusive and sustainable development, along with other pressing global political issues.

For reference, the BRICS association was founded in 2006 and comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Additional members now include the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Egypt, and Ethiopia.

The 16th summit of BRICS leaders is currently taking place in Kazan from October 22 to 24, marking a significant event under Russia's chairmanship of the association. More than 30 countries are expected to participate. Among the foreign leaders attending are Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Previously, UN Secretary-General António Guterres also arrived in Kazan to take part in the BRICS summit.
