8785Mirodil Abdurahmanov, the deputy chairman of the Democratic Party of "Milliy Tiklanish" for ideological matters, clarified that Alisher Qodirov did not intend to suggest the reinstatement of the death penalty in his recent post, emphasizing that his words have been misunderstood.
He explained that Qodirov was addressing a distressing situation and penned his comments with intense emotion.
"Such a vile act cannot be described in any other way to a child. However, many have concluded that Alisher Qodirov proposed reinstating the death penalty. While this thought may have crossed his mind, the interpretation of his statement that a person who brutalized a disabled child should not live' is incorrect.
In our legal system, those who commit serious crimes are sentenced to life imprisonment. Alisher Qodirov might have referred to this when he said 'should not live.' Alternatively, he could have been suggesting that society needs to be rid of such elements," said Mirodil Abdurahmanov.
Mirodil Abdurahmanov pointed out that Alisher Qodirov and his party were key initiators of constitutional reforms, indicating that both Qodirov and the entire party supported this article fully on the eve of the referendum.
Abdurahmanov noted that even some of Qodirov's colleagues in the Oliy Majlis misinterpreted his distressing comments.
"In my view, even in moments of intense emotion, thoughts and judgments should not be misconstrued. If Alisher Qodirov intended to advocate for the death penalty's reinstatement for serious crimes, he would have stated it plainly. There's no need to elaborate on Qodirov's firm stance on such issues," said the deputy chairman of the Democratic Party "Milliy Tiklanish" for ideological matters.
Earlier, Alisher Qodirov stated that those responsible for taking the life of an innocent child in the horrific incident in Yashnobod district, Tashkent, do not deserve to live. In response, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Odiljon Tojiev, suggested gifting a copy of the Constitution to those advocating for the return of the death penalty.
